Fountains of Wayne

There are so many people who think Fountains of Wayne suck because of the novelty smash hit from a decade ago, “Stacy’s Mom.” (It’s a killer song, but their best? No.) If you dig into their albums, though… they are some seriously great songwriters who do the indie/folk/powerpop mixture justice. It’s obvious, when you have Adam Schlesinger (from the band Ivy, and also the writer of all the hits from the 1996 film That Thing You Do!) in the band, as co-writer.

These guys just write hook after hook after hook, and it’s sick! I don’t know how they do it.
